The Trusty Papa

It's a crisp but moist autumn day. I almost did not want to get out of bed because without my trusty Dessert Secretary The Cinned, the tour is never the same... Plus she was indulging in the exquisite sweetness in Paris which gave me more the reason to stay under the blanket and sulk the day away.

Alas I have a date with some Argentine guy who had been reminding me to visit this branch of Pasticceria Papa in Five Dock every single time we drove past, which was very often.

Luckily it was the Anzac weekend which meant that traffic was not in its usual madness and parking right outside the venue was possible. The amount of biscuits, cakes, pastries, breads on offer was offensive! How could I alone conquer them all? The other DDDs could not make it in time so how many items could I get for the two of us? Decisions, decisions, decisions.

7 is my favourite number and unintentionally I ordered: baked ricotta cheesecake, blueberry danish, cannoli, chocolate cream scroll, almond biscuit, pistachio biscuit and fig biscuit.

The biscuits were all very impressive, especially the pistachio one. The cannolis were mini versions and the pastry was a little stale. The chocolate cream in the scroll had an interesting powdery flavour. But the piece de resistance was the baked ricotta cheesecake: a good combination of savoury and sweet, with its pastry being more cake-like than buttery. We were more than happy to consume another portion... Me thinks we will just go straight to it next time - they are famed in the Haberfield store too.

It was a bit too chilly to have some pistachio gelato, which is our old-time favourite from the Haberfield store. Spring will be around soon - or in this unpredictable weather there is always time for gelato!

This venue is the modern version of its original store, it lacks the loud Italian family air about it however the chic space upstairs offers a more relaxing surroundings to enjoy a good coffee - and it was pretty good. Unfortunately that Argentine dude had to spill his cup, but fortunately all over himself and not me!
